Today, read about funding sources for LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs, who often face more challenges in securing funding than entrepreneurs of other backgrounds.

Bruin Entrepreneurs is excited to announce that BruinLabs 2021 Applications are now open! BruinLabs is a product and business plan development summer program wherein participants will design their own project with their teams, while also engaging in a series of specialized workshops and panels on product development. Each group will consist of 3-5 college students supported by a Project Manager who will help the participants and act as the team’s guide throughout the 8-week entrepreneurial process. We are looking for participants from all majors, years, and universities. Our program begins on June 21st and ends on August 14th with a Demo Day.

Qvevri is hiring!
Qvevri was established by UCLA Anderson MBAs Jack Browning (’22) and Aleksandre Kokhreidze (’21) to introduce natural wines from the Republic of Georgia wines into the US market. Georgia is the birthplace of wine, boasting an 8000-year wine-making tradition and home to an ancient (and delicious!) production method. Launching fully in the fall of 2021, Qvevri aims to bring these amazing wines to the US at affordable prices and bring Georgia to the forefront of the wine-making world. What: 6-month highly-structured incubator that connects UC-affiliated startups with essential resources
About: Housed inside the Cove @ UCI, our collaborative team of business leaders, entrepreneurs, investors and technology transfer experts eat, sleep and drink innovation. Using our combined experience, we help fine-tune a strategic process that leads innovation with both commercial promise and the potential to meet real needs, from formation to funding. Once accepted to the incubator, you’ll have access to critical resources at no cost to your startup, including office hours, guidance and mentorship, lab access, workshops, and networking.
Application deadline: Apply to Cycle 20 by June 6th here. Cyle 20 runs from July through December 2021.
The Slavin Fellowship
About: Fellowships will be awarded to students of extraordinary potential pursuing entrepreneurial projects. Fellowship awardees receive support, mentorship, and perks including a $2,500 grant and an invitation to our annual summit. Due to the pandemic, we will not be hosting an in-person summit this year, but we will be looking to get back on track in 2022 for our annual summit.

8 Start-Up Funding Sources For LGBTQA+ Entrepreneurs
Before you get your business off the ground (and leave space to grow), you need to raise necessary funds including venture capital and operational working capital funding – and this is one area of business where gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer entrepreneurs struggle more than their heterosexual counterparts as some traditional loans aren’t always an option to LGBT business owners. Progress towards diversity in entrepreneur funding is happening, but there is more that needs to be done.
