FACULTY INNOVATION FELLOWS PITCH SHOWCASE

Join us as we celebrate UCLA’s Faculty Innovation Fellows pitching their projects to entrepreneurs, investors, and, the UCLA community!

Nine faculty were selected to participate in the UCLA Faculty Innovation Fellows’ third cohort, a program designed to support and amplify faculty entrepreneurship at UCLA. Register here to watch these faculty members pitch their ventures on May 18th at 4pm.

STARTUP UCLA: UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT PITCH PRESENTATIONS
Please join Startup UCLA in celebrating UCLA undergraduate students who are creating for-profit, non-profit, and social enterprises. Students will pitch their latest innovations and share the importance of being research-driven to inform and shape the development of their business. Professor Tim Groeling, UCLA Department of Communication and co-founder of Startup UCLA will moderate this virtual event for Undergraduate Research Week.

LAUNCHPAD SUMMER FELLOWSHIP – DEADLINE EXTENDED!
In this LaunchPad Fellowship, up to 50 student founders will be awarded $5,000 in non-dilutive grant funding to support their time working on advancing technology ventures. The Fellowship is largely self-driven, but will include weekly skill-development workshops, goal setting, and peer and professional networking opportunities, as well as reporting requirements and regular check-ins with their LaunchPad campus Director. The Fellowship is open to all current students (graduate and undergraduate) of LaunchPad network schools as well as 2020 or 2021 graduates.

STARTUP UCLA OPPORTUNITIES
Startup UCLA Social Entrepreneurship Summer Institute 
What:
Remote summer program for rising high school juniors and seniors from July 12th to July 23rd
About: This hands-on summer program will teach students the basics of creating a mission-oriented venture and allow them to apply that knowledge by creating their own ventures, which they will pitch to a panel of entrepreneurs and investors for feedback. Participants will be awarded 2 units of college credit upon successful completion of the program. Financial aid is available.

About:
 There are far more internship opportunities out there than just those listed on your university’s career center website. Sometimes though, you have to create your own! Justin Lokitz, Innovation Mentor & Co founder at Accelab will speak about inventing your own college internship, creating your dream position, making the most of a summer job, and working in a startup environment in this session.

VentureWell E-Team Grant Program
What:
Unlock up to $25K in grant funding! 
About: The E-Team Grant Program supports early-stage innovator teams that are developing science and technology inventions addressing critical social, health, and environmental challenges. In addition to receiving grant funding of up to $25K, selected teams are accepted into the Pioneer workshop, which offers them the training and mentoring needed to bring their high-impact solutions to the world! Pioneer is designed to build confidence and entrepreneurial skills in students as they explore essential topics like customer discovery, intellectual property, and business model validation. E-Teams receive continued coaching and mentoring after they take part in Pioneer, as well as national recognition through the VentureWell network.

Women’s Business Enterprise National Council’s Collegiate Accelerator
What:
Accelerator for female entrepreneurs with the opportunity to win a $5K grant
About: Aspiring collegiate female entrepreneurs (or recent graduates) accepted into the WBENC Collegiate Accelerator will learn to grow and scale their businesses through tailored entrepreneurship curriculum focused on the fundaments of growth, access to capital, marketing, business strategy, and leadership. They receive mentoring from some of the most successful women-owned businesses and America’s largest Fortune 500 companies, while also participating in a virtual showcase of their product or service to WBENC Corporate Members, a pitch competition, and join an alumni community of over 200 female founders. In addition, three $5,000 Innovation Grants will be awarded to the most disruptive and innovative businesses.

UCLA Startup ‘Nur Labs’ Wins 2021 Heartland Challenge With Platform to End Late-Stage Cancer Diagnosis
Nur Labs, a graduate student startup team from the UCLA, BioDesign program won the 2021 Heartland Challenge on April 16. Nur Labs has developed a patent-pending, non-traditional, non-invasive liquid biopsy platform to detect cancer earlier, when it is most treatable. “We are investing in the business. Our first priority is to complete our IRB feasibility study to iterate upon the machine-learning algorithms, then publish the results of our clinical findings,” said Sumita T.
