Open to UCLA students and recent graduates, the Startup UCLA Summer Accelerator is a 10-week program in which participants are provided $5,000 and connections to industry professionals and mentors to work on their early-stage startup. The program includes various events including weekly office hours, fireside chats, skill workshops, and a mentor night. Participants are expected to work on their venture full-time at 40 hours a week. Unlike most accelerators, Startup UCLA takes NO EQUITY in your startup. This is an opportunity for UCLA students or recent graduates with an early-stage, pre-VC funding startup to win $5,000 and a mentor meeting with Barry Eggers, founding partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners. Startups must be 2/3 Bruin-owned and applicants must have a venture consulting meeting through the LaunchPad program between September 2020 and April 2, 2021 to be considered. Venture Consulting Meetings
Through the Blackstone LaunchPad & Techstars program, students, alumni, faculty, and staff can schedule a free meeting with a LaunchPad venture consultant for feedback on their idea or startup at any stage. Meetings are available with Startup UCLA's Executive Director Deanna Evans, and Assistant Director and Entrepreneur-in-Residence Glentrez Olugeo. Additionally, meet our newest team member, Rachael Parker-Chavez, who specializes in social entrepreneurship and creating positive social change. Note that at least one venture consulting meeting is required for Eggers Seed Funding Prize applicants and Summer Accelerator applicants.

Startup UCLA Social Entrepreneurship Summer Institute 
Remote summer program for rising high school juniors and seniors from July 12th to July 23rd
About: This hands-on summer program will teach students the basics of creating a mission-oriented venture and allow them to apply that knowledge by creating their own ventures, which they will pitch to a panel of entrepreneurs and investors for feedback. Participants will be awarded 2 units of college credit upon successful completion of the program. Financial aid is available.

My LA2050 Grants Challenge 
What: $1M award distributed among 25 LA County organizations
About: This is an open call for ideas to make Los Angeles County the best place to learn, create, play, connect, and live. Five organizations per goal category will be awarded between $10K and $100K to implement their ideas to turn inspiration into impact. LA2050 will also commit to a one-year partnership, leveraging its resources, assets, and networks to help the projects succeed.

Techstars Los Angeles Accelerator 
About: At the center of one of the country's most diverse and thriving tech ecosystems, this program focuses on innovations that make the world better. In 2021 this program hopes to provide hybrid virtual/ in-person programming, if possible, dependent on COVID-19 conditions. The accelerator will begin on July 19th and will conclude with a Demo Day on October 14th.

3DS (3 Day Startup)
3DS at UCLA is a free 3-day boot camp that guides students through the essential steps of founding a start-up company from scratch. From ideation, team formation, market research to rapid prototyping and final pitch, participants directly apply theoretical knowledge to come up with a sustainable business model. 3DS is open to grad and undergrad students of all years, majors, and experience levels. UCLA ZAP Training Program
Training program of the NSF I-Corps at UCLA

2021 Rosenman Innovators Program
What: Innovation program for early-stage (up to and including Series A investment) healthtech startups 
About: Entrepreneurs in health technology have a great opportunity to distinguish their company and connect to investors and industry partners. The annual Rosenman Innovator program, based at UCSF Mission Bay, is calling for applications to the 2021 cycle. Ten companies will be selected from across California. Finalists get coaching in communications, product development, IP, clinical/regulatory, reimbursement, marketing and business strategy; pitch to a large group of accredited investors; and win services tailored to their needs.

About: This is a three-month program designed to help entrepreneurs at the earliest stages of their ventures focus on the fundamental parts of building a successful, sustainable business. We’re looking for entrepreneurs that have moved past the initial idea stage and identify in (or in-between) the early validation stage or the post-launch stage looking to accelerate to the next stage of growth. This cohort-based program will connect founders with mentorship and skills development workshops from experts, among other benefits.

Discord is launching new Clubhouse-like channels for audio events

Everyone is scrambling to build a Clubhouse clone right now, but for Discord it makes perfect sense. With everyone stuck at home searching for safe ways to rekindle their social lives over the last year, Discord’s appeal exploded. The company cites new behavior it observed during the pandemic as the inspiration for Stage Channels, a new feature that will facilitate more structured voice chats with designated speakers and listeners.
