PRISM Co. – a Startup UCLA Summer Accelerator ’19 alum – has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the ACTIVE Recycled Fanny Pack, the perfect, hands-free bag for quarantine and beyond. It’s made from 100% recycled nylon, engineered from recycled single-use plastics like plastic containers and water bottles, as waste from single-use plastics from disposable masks and plastic bags has surged over 300% throughout the pandemic. The UC Founder Survey will allow the University of California Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) team to learn more about our systemwide founder community. This 5-minute survey is designed to collect demographic data on founding teams currently participating in UC-affiliated innovation and entrepreneurship activities. The collection of this data will have a direct impact on UC’s ability to fundraise, develop programs, and better support the UC founder community.

In this LaunchPad Fellowship, up to 50 student founders will be awarded $5,000 in non-dilutive grant funding to support their time working on advancing technology ventures. The Fellowship is largely self-driven, but will include weekly skill-development workshops, goal setting, and peer and professional networking opportunities, as well as reporting requirements and regular check-ins with their LaunchPad campus Director. The Fellowship is open to all current students (graduate and undergraduate) of LaunchPad network schools as well as 2020 or 2021 graduates.

Michaelson Found Animals Summer Internship

Alumni Ventures/Westwood Ventures – Venture Fellows Program
The Venture Fellow Program offers UCLA alumni and graduate students exposure to venture capital. VC is a tough industry to break into, but our fellow program offers hands-on investing experience. It is an educational opportunity that makes a meaningful impact on career acceleration and trajectory; nearly 40% of our grads find roles in VC or entrepreneurship after completing the program. Startup UCLA Social Entrepreneurship Summer Institute
What: Remote summer program for rising high school juniors and seniors from July 12th to July 23rd
About: This hands-on summer program will teach students the basics of creating a mission-oriented venture and allow them to apply that knowledge by creating their own ventures, which they will pitch to a panel of entrepreneurs and investors for feedback. Participants will be awarded 2 units of college credit upon successful completion of the program. Financial aid is available.

What: Training program of the NSF I-Corps at UCLA
About: NSF I-Corps provides training and funds to aspiring academic entrepreneurs who seek answers to the following questions: How to identify customers for your innovation? How to search for product-market fit? How to conduct an efficient customer discovery? These sessions are open to everyone!

What: Conference centering around the “Power to Change”
About: UCLA Anderson’s Impact Week celebrates our community’s commitment to creating a more equitable, just, and sustainable society. With a theme of “Power to Change,” Impact Week 2021 will spotlight ideas, practices, and skills that business leaders need to change their organizations and industries in support of social justice, economic inclusion, environmental sustainability, quality healthcare, educational equity, and other important global goals. Speakers for this conference include Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán and Emma Stewart, Sustainability Officer at Netflix, among others.

What: Free 12-week residency program
About: This is a three-month program designed to help entrepreneurs at the earliest stages of their ventures focus on the fundamental parts of building a successful, sustainable business. We’re looking for entrepreneurs that have moved past the initial idea stage and identify in (or in-between) the early validation stage or the post-launch stage looking to accelerate to the next stage of growth. This cohort-based program will connect founders with mentorship and skills development workshops from experts, among other benefits.

What: Unlock up to $25K in grant funding!
About: The E-Team Grant Program supports early-stage innovator teams that are developing science and technology inventions addressing critical social, health, and environmental challenges. In addition to receiving grant funding of up to $25K, selected teams are accepted into the Pioneer workshop, which offers them the training and mentoring needed to bring their high-impact solutions to the world! Pioneer is designed to build confidence and entrepreneurial skills in students as they explore essential topics like customer discovery, intellectual property, and business model validation. Two Black Lives Matter-inspired startups aim to educate
Read about how Dominique Price and Gari De Ramos have taken BLM-inspired action with their startups, BlackedOut Game and Radical In Progress, respectively, to both educate on Black history and build accessible educational tools to help others learn key concepts relating to racial and social justice.
