BRUIN IMPACT CHALLENGE EVENTS

Please join us for the third and final Bruin Impact Challenge workshop – “Theory of Change” – on Nov. 29 at 3:30pm! ⁠

The goal of every social impact idea – whether it’s an idea for a business, a creative project, a giving strategy, or an advocacy initiative – should be lasting positive change. You want your idea to make a difference. After an interactive Q&A with our guest speaker, attendees will learn one of the most widely-used frameworks for ensuring you make a positive social impact, how to apply it to your idea, and how to best articulate your Theory of Change in your Bruin Impact Challenge pitch and proposal.⁠

UCLA’S INNOVATION FELLOWS

UCLA’s Innovation Fellows is a campus-wide program aimed at advancing entrepreneurial excellence and startup culture among faculty and postdocs. The 2022 program is intended to be hybrid with in-person and Zoom events.

Open to all UCLA faculty and postdocs, 8-10 teams will be invited to participate during winter and spring quarters 2022. The program is designed to advance innovative projects into new startups or non-profits through a series of workshops and 1:1 venture consulting meetings. Postdocs and project scientists may apply for the program with a letter of support from their faculty supervisor.

The program culminates in a public Pitch Showcase to the UCLA community and a network of local entrepreneurs and investors. Learn more and apply by

Cinnamongirl is looking for an Entrepreneurship Instructor/Program Lead! 
Cinnamongirl is a nonprofit focused on the success of young women of color. For their new Entrepreneurgirl program, launching in January 2022, they need one instructor/program lead, who can guide their Entrepreneurgirls (max 20 girls) through the Mindset & Milestones workbook and its modules and assignments. You don’t necessarily have to have a deep knowledge of entrepreneurship, but you have an affiliation with the subject, e.g. you are an entrepreneur, enrolled as an MBA student, etc. Where possible, the masterclasses will be in-person in the Bay Area, with out-of-town attendees Skyping in. Big Ideas Competition
What: Provides students, even those with the earliest of early-stage ideas, with the platform and structure necessary to create – launch – fund & scale their innovations.
About: Receive extensive feedback (~10 pages) from industry experts who review your proposal, workshops, and online resources to help you refine your idea, team building, mentorship, and networking opportunities. You can win up to $20,000 for your social innovation. 
Over the past 15 years, the Big Ideas Contest has supported 520 winning teams who are now making an impact across the world.

Startup Labs Startup Accelerator
What: Startup Labs is an in-house pre-accelerator program hosted annually by UCLA’s premier entrepreneurship organization, Bruin Entrepreneurs.
About: Whether you have a startup that has already begun generating revenue or just an idea, Startup Labs can help you build and grow your startup. Over a twelve-week period, they will help the founders grow their startups by providing them with mentorship, virtual working spaces, valuable connections, and any other resources they need. At the end of the program, you will have the opportunity to pitch at their Demo Day, in front of a live panel of VC judges.

Future Founders Fellowship
What: A prestigious year-long program designed to accelerate the nation’s top young entrepreneurs and their businesses.
About: Accelerate your personal and business growth through the prestigious year-long Fellowship program, which is focused on developing young founders through curated programming, workshops, and community. It runs February 2022 – November 2022, and is open to ALL young entrepreneurs (18-30ish years of age) based in the United States who are a founder and majority equity holder of their company (typically the CEO or C-Suite role)

Techstars Los Angeles Accelerator
What: This program focuses on innovations that make the world a better place [the 40  companies who have participated in the past have raised over $159 million, and have a combined market cap of $373 million across multiple LA-based programs].
About: To participate in this program, companies should have at least 2 full-time founders, have raised $2M or less, and at a valuation of $10M or less. Techstars LA is fully committed to investing in underrepresented founders that reflect the diversity of Los Angeles’ multicultural community.

Bruin Impact Challenge Competition
What: To cultivate early-stage ideas that drive positive social and environmental impact.
About: The Bruin Impact Challenge invites students from ALL backgrounds and majors to bring ideas in the following tracks: Social Ventures, Creative Projects, Advocacy, and Strategic Giving. This challenge will provide you with the resources for your idea and the opportunity to win cash from a prize pool of $10,000!

Rice Business Plan Competition
What: Internationally-recognized initiative devoted to the support of entrepreneurship, and Rice Business, it offers an educational program mirroring real-world experience through this multi-day event for student startups from across the world.
About: Student founders pitch to investors, receive feedback and advance your startup. There is also significant time designated for interaction with the judges and prize sponsors—providing valuable access and experience with both early-stage and later-stage investors. The tracks for the competition include Sustainability, Hard Tech, Life Sciences, Digital Experiences and Consumer Services. $1.6 Million in investment, cash and in-kind prizes was awarded to the teams at the 2021 Virtual Rice Business Plan Competition. The competition will take place on April 7-9, 2022 at Rice University.

Global Student Entrepreneur Awards Competition
What:
 Chapters and partners of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) will host competitions at the local and national levels, which will serve as qualifying events in the competition journey to the GSEA Global Finals.
About: You must be enrolled in a university/college as an undergraduate or graduate student at the time of application at least part-time. You must be the owner, founder, or controlling shareholder of your student business. Your student business must have been in operation for at least six consecutive months prior to the application generating income.

The Mom Project Raises $80M to Keep Women in the Workforce
The Chicago-based startup, The Mom Project, is a platform created to connect professionally driven women to the companies and jobs that are right for them. The company recently announced that it raised $80 million in its Series C funding round in order to support its mission. Countless people lost their jobs during 2020, but women were disproportionately affected compared to men. Millions of women were driven out of the U.S. workforce due to a variety of reasons. But The Mom Project remains hopeful. Anecdotally, the company says it has seen increases in the number of women using its platform over the past few months, signaling a potential shift back to work. The company hopes to use the momentum to support women re-entering the workforce. Read more here.
